Perfect for steam train enthusiasts, this day out gives you the chance to prep the train, learn how to use the controls and switch tracks at the station – just like it would have been done half a century ago! Your experience will include complimentary lunch, and will end with the ultimate challenge; climbing a intimidating 1:27 gradient hill following the route of a former quarry line!
Whats on the agenda?
This steam train driving experience is a fantastic treat for locomotive enthusiasts! Your experience will take place at the charming Wirksworth Yard – situated in Derbyshires picturesque Gentle Valley – and will begin with a welcome and safety briefing. An experienced professional will then show you how to prepare the locomotive and give you thorough instructions about how to use the controls. You will then have the opportunity to ‘shunt the yard – an exercise involving switching the train across tracks – just like it would have been done over 50 years ago. You will then be treated to a wonderful lunch, before your final challenge – guiding the train up a steep 1:27 gradient hill which follows the route of a former quarry line. Your instructor will be present at all times to ensure your safety.
Additional Information
Your voucher is valid for 10 months for one person. Participants must be over 18 years of age and must be reasonably fit and in good health. Stout footwear is recommended. Participants may not consume any alcohol on the day of the experience. All dates are subject to availability.
